CBG -Cannabigerol

CBG compound

CBG or cannabigerol is a cannabinoid that is found in cannabis. Refresher on cannabinoids, active compounds found in cannabis. As of today, there are over 110 cannabinoids in cannabis some are major and most right now are minor. As research on these cannabinoids continue we will see different strains of cannabis plants. We will see farmers breed the plants to yield higher in different cannabinoids.

CBG or cannabigerol is a minor phyto-cannabinoid present in cannabis plants. This cannabinoid is a non-intoxicating chemical compound. CBG is found in low amounts in high CBD plants, like hemp. Accorrding to Cresco Labs, “CBG works to fight inflammation, pain, nausea and works to slow the proliferation of cancer cells. Research has shown it also significantly reduces intraocular eye pressure caused by glaucoma. Strains high in CBG will be beneficial treating conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, and cancer.” Farmers will have to grow cannabis specifically for CBG, because it typically is very low levels.

As research continues, we will see more information about different cannabinoids and what they can do. We hope this helps you on your cannabis journey!

Newly Discovered Cannabinoids -THCP & CBDP

cannabis

A group of Italian researchers discovered two new cannabinoids in cannabis earlier this month. It is unknown how many cannabinoids are actually in cannabis. Research is slow going in the US because of federal laws restricting cannabis. CBDP and THCP are the newly discovered cannabinoids.

THCP

THCP is found to be much more potent than THC. What is the difference between them? According to Leafly, the molecule structure is made up of links, and THC has five links and THCP has eight links. This is the first of the cannabinoids discovered that has more than five links in it’s structure. The links bind with CB receptors in our body. Research shows that THCP is 33 times more active on CB1 receptor and up to 10 times more active on CB2 receptor.

CBDP

CBDP, similar to THCP, has a longer molecule structure with seven links. CBD only has five links. This cannabinoid is also assumed to be more potent than CBD. As research continues on these cannabinoids, science will reveal how they will effect our body.

The entire world assumed the psychotropic effects of cannabis came from THC, however, now it could be THCP or even another cannabinoid that hasn’t been found. The therapeutic benefits for these newly discovered cannabinoids aren’t recorded, and it might be a while before we know exactly how they effect us. We really are only breaking the surface with cannabis. This time next year we could see our entire view on cannabinoids change again.

Hemp V. Marijuana – What’s the difference?

Hemp

Hemp and Marijuana are both a form of cannabis. Cannabis is a flowering plant grown outdoors and indoors. The cannabinoids that each flower produces distinguishes it between hemp and marijuana. Cannabinoids are active compounds produced in cannabis. THC and CBD are the popular cannabinoids that are found in all forms of cannabis. THC is the psychoactive ingredient that gives the “high” feeling. In addition, you can find it in higher amounts of THC in marijuana. Hemp is a Sativa and CBD is dominant.

Cannabis

There are three different types of the cannabis flower – Indica, Sativa, and Ruderalis. Let’s start with Indica plants. This form of cannabis plant has higher amounts of THC than CBD. They grow wide and short, typically grown indoors. Indica plants have “woody” scent. Sativa plants have higher amounts of CBD than THC. They grow tall and in warmer areas. Sativa is sweeter than Indica plants. Finally, Ruderalis isn’t talked about much. It is grown in shorter periods and in a colder climate. They do not produce high amounts of THC and do not grow very big. Farmers, typically breed ruderalis with sativa and indica plants.

Hemp

Hemp is used to make products like paper, oils, cloth, plastics, and much more. In addition, it is a super food. Hemp roots and seeds can be very beneficial to our bodies and skin. Hemp is 100% legal with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill. Emerald Cannabliss only offers only hemp derived products.

Marijuana

Finally, we get to marijuana. Marijuana has higher amounts of THC. As of today, marijuana is legal in 11 states including Washington D.C. recreational. In the United States, 33 states have laws for medical marijuana. However, the federal law states that marijuana doesn’t have any medicinal effects and is highly addictive. Laws are changing everyday in this industry. In due time, the federal government will reschedule cannabis.

The difference between the two simply is active compounds within the plant. Farmers breed the plants and make different combinations of cannabinoids. As research begins, we will find out what other cannabinoids can do for our endocannabinoid system. Cannabis is a plant that grows from the ground, essentially it is a weed for our ecosystem.
