CBG -Cannabigerol

CBG compound

CBG or cannabigerol is a cannabinoid that is found in cannabis. Refresher on cannabinoids, active compounds found in cannabis. As of today, there are over 110 cannabinoids in cannabis some are major and most right now are minor. As research on these cannabinoids continue we will see different strains of cannabis plants. We will see farmers breed the plants to yield higher in different cannabinoids.

CBG or cannabigerol is a minor phyto-cannabinoid present in cannabis plants. This cannabinoid is a non-intoxicating chemical compound. CBG is found in low amounts in high CBD plants, like hemp. Accorrding to Cresco Labs, “CBG works to fight inflammation, pain, nausea and works to slow the proliferation of cancer cells. Research has shown it also significantly reduces intraocular eye pressure caused by glaucoma. Strains high in CBG will be beneficial treating conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, and cancer.” Farmers will have to grow cannabis specifically for CBG, because it typically is very low levels.

As research continues, we will see more information about different cannabinoids and what they can do. We hope this helps you on your cannabis journey!

Why Do We Need Cannabis?

Why do we need cannabis? This question is something that not many people ask, but they should. This plant of millions of years has given us so much good, but with good we always have bad. Cannabis has many potential medicinal benefits. We can’t claim it helps with any ailments because it is hasn’t been approved by the FDA or the federal government to do so.

My research has shown me what the possibly of this plant can do. In the 1970s, the pharmaceutical companies in the US won over the federal government to be allowed to have 100% of the research of cannabis. They would finance and judge cannabis for themselves take it away from the government. They were allowed to regulate themselves and didn’t do any “high” research. Pharma also only focused on Delta-9 THC, disregarding the rest of the compounds in the plant. Why did they take over the research? Well, of course the one and only reason would be MONEY. They wanted to be able to patent cannabis synthetics. Also, the federal government recorded “through hundreds of studies that even ‘natural’ crude cannabis was the ‘best and safest medicine of choice’ for many serious health problems”

When we talk about cannabis we aren’t just referring to cannabinoids, THC or CBD. The stalks, flowers, and seeds all have amazing benefits. The greens of the plant could be eaten as a salad with no high (not in Kentucky it is illegal to have a hemp salad). If you look at places like walmart and other large chains, they sell hemp seeds and hemp hearts. However, if you look on the back of the products in American grocery and chain stores, none of it is grown in the USA. Hemp seed as you see below is considered a “superfood” it also is amazing for your skin. One of my favorite companies Kentucky Hemp Works uses the ENTIRE plant when they make products. They try to incorporate the plant in everything they do not just CBD focused. Here is a break down of Hemp Seed, Hemp stalk, and Hemp Flower.

This is in no way medical advice. I am simply just trying to educate about cannabis and its potential benefits. If you found this blog informative please give it a like and share! I am committed to facts over stigma and providing accurate information.

Facts Over Stigma – History on Cannabis

cannabis

On my social media platforms, I have dedicated myself to presenting facts over stigma a few times a week. I want to spread my knowledge and normalize cannabis as it once was 80 years ago. As of today, we have legal dispensaries in 33 states that have legalized cannabis either medicinally or recreationally. The history of this plant is extremely important, as is what it can do for our bodies and earth. You can check out a previous blog “Fascinating Truth About Hemp.”

Today, I’m going to drop some history facts over stigma for you. You may know these and you may not. If you have any facts on cannabis not mentioned, please comment below.

History

  • At one point in our history, Cannabis was our PLANET’S number one agriculture crop. It was the primary source for fiber, fabric, lighting oil, paper, incense, medicine and essential food source for animals and humans.
  • Hemp was used as legal tender in most of America from 1631-1800s to encourage farmers to grow more. You could even pay your taxes with cannabis for 200 years across America.*
  • Majority of the paper made was made out of hemp, until 1883.
  • Benjamin Franklin started Americas first paper mills with cannabis, in 1750. This allowed Americans to have free colonial press.*
  • In the 1920s, doctors wrote 3 million prescriptions for cannabis. In addition, Cannabis was the 3rd most used over the counter and prescribed medicine.
  • At one point in our history pharmaceutical companies produced cannabis extract medicines. There were NEVER any reports of death and overdoses*
  • They used cannabis on ships, right down to the sailors clothes. Canvas sails, anchor ropes, cargo nets, fishing nets, flags, and shrouds were made from the stalk of the marijuana plant. Along with the ships charts, maps, logs, and bibles were made of hemp paper.*
  • I love this paragraph from this history book about hemp. “Finally, it must be noted that approximately 50% of all chemicals used in American agriculture today are used in cotton growing. Hemp needs no chemicals and has few weed or insect enemies – except for the US government, and DEA”*
  • Art canvas were made of Hemp. Van Gogh, Gainsborough, and Rembrandt were all created on hemp canvas. *
  • “In early 1937, Assistant U.S. Surgeon General Walter Treadway told the Cannabis Advisory Subcommittee of the League of Nations that, “It may be taken for a relatively long time without social or emotional breakdown.  Marihuana is habit-forming… in the same sense as… sugar or coffee.” Source: https://ushempmuseum.us/prohibition
  • Four men in 1930s, started their journey destroying this plant. Harry Anslinger, William Randolph Hearst, Andrew Mellon, and Lammot DuPont.

I will continue my journey on providing facts over stigma in the future. We are dedicated to making this plant normal, and providing education on how cannabis can benefit our world. (again)

Help me spread the love of this plant with others. Let’s break this stigma together!

Can I Fail A Drug Test Using CBD?

Cannabis flower

Can you fail a drug test when using CBD products? Yes, it is possible. We get this questions a lot when explaining what hemp and CBD is. The stigma around cannabis is real. Unfortunately, employers do not want any THC in your system. Once removed from the schedule 1 category, (we all know it will be eventually) we hope that employers will stop testing for THC.

The tricky part of the cannabinoid THC, is it is stored in your fat for up to 30-45 days. Depending on how often you use cannabis. Tinctures, flower, and edibles that have even the minimal amount of THC can throw a positive on a drug test. Topicals tend to only reach the first few layers of your skin, which may not make it to your blood stream. Some brands offer a THC free version like Joy Organics. Be aware when using THC free products that it won’t work as good as a full spectrum. The reason for this because when they are striping the THC from the flower, they also remove other cannabinoids and terpenes. Also, CBD and THC work best when they are together.

If you are subject to a drug test, we suggest you do a couple things. Perhaps, speaking to your employer about it help. Show them the bottle and receipt could help your case. We do suggest that you ask before doing in this case. We have heard so many stories of people losing their job due to using CBD products. If you don’t have a relationship with your employer or do not feel comfortable talking about it with them, we suggest that you do not ingest products that have any THC. You may use topicals for localized pain, as it is less likely for you to have THC in your system. We cannot guarantee this by any means because we are not scientist nor have a medical degree. We have done research and networking to better understand cannabis and it’s effects. Be advised you can purchase THC drug test at any dollar tree to test yourself. Everyone’s body is different and holds substances differently. Better safe than sorry.

We are not medical professionals and we do not give medical advice. We want to make sure you are safe in all ways, while using the brands we offer. You can test fail a drug test, if you ingest products that have even the minimal .3% THC.

Kentucky Pushes Medical Marijuana To Sentate

Our home state is Kentucky, so we were extremely happy to see another cannabis bill move through the house. Of course, Hemp was first to make it’s way through last decade, in 2013. I listened to the entire house debate on this bill. They mentioned it would be one of the strictest laws in the country. They will not allow flower, which they do not allow sale of hemp flower in Kentucky either. A board of 13 people will decide who qualifies, chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and nausea or vomiting are a couple of the conditions named. A statewide poll according to KYNorml 90% of Kentuckians are for medical marijuana.

The representatives for this bill told stories of opioid addiction. They also talked about how medicinal cannabis can help people with chronic diseases like epilepsy, MS, Parkinson. Not to mention, people that have to take medication for medication side effects. They have not stated yet who will qualify. Representatives brought up that the death tolls on opioids are in the thousands and cannabis is zero. I know first hand how important legalizing this entire plant is. I hear stories all the time of people that do not want to be on these types of medications. Prescription addiction hits close to home for myself and a lot close to me. I stand behind the ones pushing for this to become law.

During the debate the representatives against HB-136 were people who want more research before legalizing marijuana. They also stated they wanted to wait until the DEA to descheduled cannabis. Of course, they brought up FDA issues, banking issues, and how are patients going to pay for it. These are all valid issues but getting the federal government to act on this has been very slow. FDA is dragging their feet because they will lose money once it is descheduled. We will not get more research until we legalize it in some form.

If legalized, Kentucky will be the 34 state to legalize medical cannabis. I believe, if we have most of our states legalized in some way the federal government will have to make a move to deschedule. Which isn’t going to happen in an election year. Big business including pharma also have a huge interest in descheduling cannabis which is another issue on it’s own. We are moving forward, and yesterdays 63-30 vote approving medical marijuana is a step in the right direction! Make sure you are voicing your opinion on this matter Kentuckians. Let your law makers know you are in support of HB-136. If you aren’t in a state that has cannabis law tell your representatives. Stand up and voice your opinion. It took me under 2 minutes to say you support HB 136 – 800-372-7181.
